I’m new to this whole blogging thing-so bear with me while I work out the kinks!

Wow!  It’s been a long journey in trying to find a piece of land to put our funny farm on!  I thought we had found our forever home…UNTIL we got chickens.  Chickens are the gateway drug.  Don’t EVER let anyone tell you otherwise.  7 chickens turned into 10, which then turned into 17 and 2 peacocks!  If I let my husband have his way, we’d probably have goats as well.  Either way, we’ll more than likely have WAY more than just chickens, peacocks, and goats.

 

Today, we received the contract for our 17.5 acres.  As soon as we close, we’re hoping to break ground on our new baby.  This blog will be used to document this crazy journey we are now embarking on.  Neither Matt nor I have any idea on what to expect along the way.

 

We used to only ever want to live in old homes.  Our first home together was built in 1820.  Our second home was built in 1916….both fixer uppers with lathe and plaster walls.  If you don’t know anything about lathe and plaster walls, consider yourself blessed!  With old homes, comes old home problems.  Over the years, we’ve spent more time doing projects on our houses, rather than spending the time outside.  Once we moved to Valley Pike, had some land and some animals, we knew what we wanted.  A little farm where we could grow our own food, become just a bit more self sustaining than we are, but also enjoy the tranquility that comes with living in the quiet country.

Thistle Dew Farm will hopefully be our forever home where our kids can grow up and one day bring their kids back to visit.  Feel free to follow us on this crazy journey God has blessed us with.
